Use consistent source, medium and campaign names to distinguish links in analytics. The tagged URL identifies the campaign; it does not guarantee that tracking is collected.
- Consistent naming
- Campaign context
- Tagged destination

- Enter a source, medium and campaign name; add content when distinguishing placements.
- Build the link, check the destination and copy it into your campaign.
Understanding the results
- Source
- Use a consistent label for where the link appears, such as newsletter or a named social platform.
- Medium and campaign
- Describe the channel and initiative consistently so later reports can group the visits sensibly.
- Content
- Use the optional content value to distinguish links such as a header button and a text link within the same campaign.
What this check covers
The builder runs in your browser. It replaces the matching UTM fields while preserving the remaining URL components. A tagged link does not install analytics or guarantee attribution; your destination’s analytics and visitor settings still matter. Never put personal details or secret tokens in campaign tags.
Common questions
Should I add UTM tags to internal website links?
For ordinary internal navigation, use clean internal links. Reserve campaign tags for deliberately tracking campaign arrivals so your reporting remains understandable.
Why are two similar campaigns separate in my report?
Check spelling, capitalization and naming conventions. Choose a shared convention before distributing links across a team.
